Amazement

This past Thursday evening, on the night we remember as the night before Christ was crucified, on what we call “Good Friday”, I walked onto my back deck which faces south and watched an amazing full moon rising over the horizon against a baby blue sky. It was an amazing sight, then I turned to the west and witnessed the sun setting over the mountain with a beautiful orange and red sky.

Standing there witnessing these amazing events, the sovereignty and power of God was evident. How incredible all of God’s creations are, and still we as a people deny His power and majesty. How the universe operates and even how our bodies are so incredible they can heal themselves, was all created by God and made to serve and worship Him. All the earth is Holy Ground to worship and provide evidence of the power of God.

I stood there and thought about the entrance of Christ into Jerusalem for His last few days before He would be crucified for us. Luke described the following concerning the triumphant entrance:

“And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen; 38 Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest. 39 And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. 40 And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.” (Luke 19:37-40)

Have you ever thought about that last sentence, “the stones would immediately cry out”? What an amazing statement. Christ had indicated previously He was the Messiah, but here the disciples are claiming loudly that Jesus was the Messiah. They did this at the entrance to Jerusalem, and the pharisees asked Christ to make them stop, as they seen this as heresy. Christ answered if His disciples did not proclaim him the Messiah, the stones would cry out that He is the Saviour of the world.

It is amazing how we can see evidence of our God all around us in this world. This is probably why Satan uses the plethora of distractions and fantasy to keep us from seeing the true beauty of this earth. If television was not bad enough, now most people spend the majority of their days in a digital world that is not real. We all need to be awakened to the reality of who God is and how amazing his creation is.

What I have stated also makes what Christ did for us on the cross so much more powerful. God sent Christ who was full God and full Man (Hypostatic Union) to be violently and painfully tortured and die on the old rugged cross for our sins. He paid a debt we could not pay ourselves.

Then on the third day, which we remember today as Easter, Christ was resurrected from the dead, and after spending 40 days on earth ascended to sit at the Father’s right-hand making intercession for us. The mighty, all powerful God, sacrificed for us, how amazing our God is.

The next time you witness the amazement of a natural event on this earth, remember who created that event and give praise, glory and honor to our Creator, for his Grace, Mercy and Love.

In Christ,
